The grading standard is high and can only be achieved through regular 
training.

Students wishing to grade in the future need to achieve regular
training hours in order to achieve the criteria and goals.

Owing to the numbers we need to book requiring £5 non returnable deposit. If you wish to book or pay on a weekly basis speak to Pat who is keeping a record of payments made.

Senior KYU Grading
The Senior Kyu Grading consists of two training sessions owing to the content. 
Part One Grading Session Thursday 5th November 6-30 until 8-30 
Part Two Grading Session Thursday 12th November 6-30 until 8-30
The fully inclusive cost is £24 covering the cost of belts and certification to successful students. 
Both sessions must be attended

Students who are not grading will be able to train as normal. Usual fees apply. Don’t miss this if you wish to grade in the future or simply progress in the system.

Eligibility to Grade
A students eligibility to grade is based on sessions attended as progress and attitude are assessed on a weekly basis and at the discretion of the instructors.

Looking Ahead 2010
Proposed Full Combat Weekend at Hebron Kickboxing and Self Defence Northern Ireland 26th/27th/28th/March 2010. Those wishing to attend need to add their names to the list as the flight prices change daily.

Thursday 1st October 2009

Holiday period being virtually over reflected in a reasonable attendance in September on Monday evening training sessions but we still have a shortfall of students on Thursday training sessions resulting in Thursday being subsidised by Mondays.
Thank’s to those who support the club on a regular basis no matter what, nice one guy’s you certainly stand out in your achievements and the way you soak up the training sessions.

Apologies
Owing to Self Defence Federation {UK} changing their printing supplier we are experiencing a long delay in return of licences and associated admin but have been assured that things will be back to normal ASAP.

Club Rules
Please observe club rules regarding outside shoes or trainers not to be worn for training as dust stones dog mess etc can adhere to outside footwear and be transported onto the training area. Nails should be kept short and clean to avoid scratching or infection.

Training Sessions
Whilst it is acceptable initially to wear any loose fitting tops or bottoms it is dojo etiquette to wear a club T/shirt or Gi. Long standing students already have the appropriate wear so this should not present a problem.
Student’s should wear their belt irrespective of their other attire. If a student has achieved a higher grade in any other martial art they are entitled to wear it if they choose.

Equipment
Anyone requiring any training gear contact Colin who will give you a cheaper price by buying direct from the wholesaler.

Friday 7th August 2009

Not a great deal happening this month apart from the usual training sessions partly attributed to annual holidays. Things should settle down in September with the schools starting back and the main holidays over.

Talking of holidays Colin is just back from 2 weeks in Northern Ireland where he incorporated a weekend training session instructing for William Ferry at Hebron Kickboxing and Self Defence Club. Students attended from Portrush, Richill, Armagh and Dungannon. Quality feedback indicated plenty of content and very informative sessions, once again, nice one Colin.

Hebron is a good link for both our clubs with William Ferry extending an invitation for us to go over and train and socialise, sounds like a cracking idea so let’s have some feedback if interested.

Owing to increased insurance premiums giving a wider cover SDF have increased some fees and introduced a club registration fee. Don’t panic, the increase will be absorbed by the club keeping licence renewals the same.

Wednesday 1st July 2009

After a first class grading the end of may we moved into a relatively busy month of June hosting Dave Turtons Seminar this being Dave’s usual high standard and a very informative session was enjoyed by all.

William Ferry and Joshua Ferry from Hebron Kickboxing and Self Defence Northern Ireland both graded at their respective levels after 3 day’s intensive training which was inclusive of attending the seminar, nice one, looking forward to the next session.

Thanks to Rob for his support with the website putting the club on facebook and the immeasurable hours he spent videoing and editing Dave Turtons seminar.

Thanks to Adrian for turning up for the demonstration at BT Adastral Park Family Day where over 4000 people attended. We had a small but impressed crowd congregate to watch two 30 minute demonstrations by Colin, Michael and Adrian, also demonstrating where EKKA Karate, Street Dancers with various other demonstrations and attractions in other arenas all contributed to a great day.

Not a good combination for those who wish to progress and hopefully grade later in the year.

Without attendance and support it is impossible to purchase new, much needed equipment, i.e. judo mats.

Sunday 3rd May 2009

Grading 23rd April 2009 produced some first class impact, grappling, contact freestyle and stamina work from all grades. No rules, kicks hard and low this is reality of street self defence.

Ollie and Luke took a hammering from each other, great just what we expect to see at 1st kyu level, all about going the distance.

Grading 30th April 2009 had the emphases on avoidance, application, going to ground and finish.

This produced some hard and fast techniques and showed students could take it as well as give it out.

The adrenalin certainly kicked in from all students and with the exception of a few bruises we had an injury free grading apart from Adrian who trained with a previous injury, pushed beyond the pain and completed the grading. Well done Adrian a credit to you.

Regular training is the key to keeping the edge and marked improvement stands out in the students who train every week without fail.

Looking ahead to Saturday 13th June 2009 and your opportunity to train with Dave Turton .Don’t miss this one if sufficiently supported we can invite Dave and other top instructors for future seminars.

Grading

Pre grading session £4 Thursday 23/04/2009 6-30pm until 8-30pm

Grading session £20 Thursday 30/04/2009 6-30 pm until 8-30 pm

The inclusive cost being £24 for both sessions, this includes belts and certification to successful students. .Both sessions must be attended.

Junior students under 16 pay a reduced rate of £18 fully inclusive.

Students owning Gi’s should wear them. (Appropriate loose clothing is acceptable)

Observe club rules on personal cleanliness.

Students short of training sessions have 5 achievable sessions left and will automatically be credited with Easter Monday 13th April (1 session) it is imperative that students train regularly as they are also assessed on a weekly basis.

Any student who feels they need further instruction can contact Colin who is available for one to one private instruction on an hourly basis. Price on application.

Support Your Club Use It Don’t Lose It

Whoop’s sorry Tori I spelt your name wrong in the February newsletter, well we live and learn.

Looking ahead to Saturday June 13th we have arranged for Dave Turton to come down and do a seminar, please pick up a handout for further information. It is in your interest to support this, if it turns out viable we can get other top instructors down in future.

Students wishing to pay in stages can do so by speaking to Pat who is keeping records of payments. £2 weekly would easily pay for a place at the seminar.

Mostly there are no problems but with the grading’s drawing closer certain students are not achieving their weekly average in training sessions. Thursday training sessions have not been well supported, although those who have attended have shown increased improvement, well done to those students.

There are still some outstanding licence renewals which need to be addressed as this may affect your insurance cover.

Ref; the April grading please check that you are achieving enough training sessions, also speak to Colin regarding your ability to grade or if you have any doubts. It is better to address any issues earlier rather than later.
